To decrease the likelihood of developing atherosclerosis:
- Exercise. Perhaps a corollary: Don't be fat. Men especially: Lose the gut!
- Reduce consumption of fatty foods.
- Eat foods high in soluble fiber (e.g. beans, apples, oat bran) to remove bile
acids in feces so liver must synthesize more from cholesterol in the blood (to lower
blood cholesterol)
- Reduce stress and don't live a sedentary lifestyle
- Avoid viral infections (e.g. wash hands)
- Studies of fish oil supplements are inconclusive, but eating fish is a good idea
insofar as a variety of diet supplies more nourishment
